HERE IS KAITLYN ROSE AT 1 WITH NEWBORN ABU AND THEN EATING SWEET FEED WITH THE GIRLS Alpacas are bred for their fiber. They are sheared once a year in the spring. This fiber is soft, light weight and not at all itchy. It is often described at three times warmer than wool and softer than cashmere. Items made from alpaca last for generations. The Inca's believed that alpacas had the fiber of the God's and only Royalty was allowed to own or wear it. Alpacas come in 22 Natural colors and the fiber also takes dye very nicely. At Royal Crest Farm we breed for fiber that is fine and dense with crimp and brightness. Our breeding program is for natural rose gray and black colors but we have a few white and beige if you prefer. An alpaca will give you from 5lbs to 10lbs of fiber each shearing. This fiber can be sold raw, or you can sell it clean and carded. Also you can send it raw to a mill for processing into yarn. or spin it yourself. Selling price is $1.00 an ounce and upward over $10.00. Finished yarn starts around $46.00 a lb and goes up depending on finesse, luster, and color Joanna and Shawn are living the dream! We found a Clean, Friendly and Safe animal for the kids to raise and show. An Investment for the future that is as close to perfect as one can get. And the tax advantages that help close the deal. We have raw fiber now and will have roving's ready for spinning in May. We also belong to the Alpaca fiber Co-Op of North America and send them half of our fiber every year. You can buy wonderful products from them made under the name Americas Alpacas.
