Goats, Dogs & Horses

Our Nubian Dairy Goats

In 2007 Kaitlyn, Shawn and their friend Alisson Johnson all bought young does from Joe Skoda & Melissa O'Rourke at Dry Creek Acres in Rock Valley Iowa. Our friend Ashley Veldhuizen at freewebs.com/glacierviewfarm  picked out the kids for us. Ashley has been showing goats since she was two and just recently lost most of her award winning Toggenburg herd to a dog attack. Our prayers are with her and I'm sure she will have a new herd out there winning all the ribbons soon.

We are letting our girls mature more before breeding but will be adding a buck and a few yearling females this year. Shawn & Alisson both won a 1st place in the open show last summer and Katie got a second in open for her age group. I'm sure there will be many more 1st place ribbons this summer And Shawn & Alisson  will now be showing in 4H also. We hope to have at least 6 girls kidding next March or April so watch for our Goat sale page.

JOEY THINKS HE'S  A GOAT, HE SURE CLIMBS LIKE ONE.

Our Great Pyrenees

LAURA & LUKE

AT 10 MONTHS & 1 YEAR OLD

Luke and Laura are purebred Great Pyrenees. Both come from livestock backgrounds and both are healthy with good hips. Laura came from a large sheep ranch in Southern Il. and is AKC registered. I had also bought her mother, but Katie the dog was not satisfied with our small acreage and would jump the fence any time she saw one or more coyotes. We had actually watched her as she tried to get a coyote to leave and then attack it when it came back. And go after a pack of coyotes and come back without a scratch after a big fight. Because we have a subdivision right across the street we placed Katie on a hundred acre deer farm in Kentucky and have been told she is very happy! Luke we bought from an Alpaca farm in Kentucky. He is purebred but with out papers. He has a great personality and like Laura he is great with all the animals. We did have a small problem when he was a puppy, he accidently killed a few ducks but as we watched one morning we found out that he was just trying to keep one with him in his dog house. The Ducks would sleep with Luke in the Dog house and leave early in the morning. Luke wanted at least one to stay with him in the dog house. We quickly taught him he could not stand on a duck to keep it with him. We quickly went out and bought him Laura as a companion and he has left the ducks alone now. Most of the puppies from their last litter are house dogs and were easily trained. But these dogs love to work and given the chance will stay outside 24/7. Our dogs have access to all our other animals and protect them all! Laura will be given a rest after this 08 Litter so after this May litter is gone it will be at least a year before we have another.

Here is Luke with an hour old cria he likes to help with deliveries by cleaning the baby during birth.

BIEWER YORKSHIRE TERRIERS A LA POM PONS

HERE IS KATIE WITH OUR NEW ADDITION SARAH

We were recently introduced to the Biewer Terrier by Gabriella Szmola at alpacasofwhimsicalacres.com. Gabriella breeds and imports Biewers so if you are interested give her a call at Home 262-843-2663 or her Cell 847-922-3186 she also has a great selection of hand made Goat Milk Soap.  The Biewer happens to be a new breed started in Germany in 1984, the same year alpacas were first brought into the USA. The Biewer was started from two Yorkshire Terriers that both had a recessive piebald gene. Mr & Mrs Werner Biewer in Germany carefully bred these dogs to developed this exquisite rare breed. Sarah is IBC German registered. I went to O'Hare with Gabriella when Sarah and two other girls came to America from Hungary. As of March 16th, Gabriella still has one girl available. We co-own Sarah with Gabriella and hope to have a litter from her next fall. If you are interested in a small breed, This one has a great personality and on average weigh under 7 1/2 lbs.

Joey with Sarah's sister Micki (still available) Both the biewers at our home are great with kids but always remember (Supervise, Supervise, Supervise!)

Horses

Kaitlyn sure loves her horses.

Cherokee is a 17 year old gelding and a wonderful horse for any rider. Lightning is a three year old miniature and was just started to be broken last fall.
